Philippa – The Journey Behind Lessans
As Owner of Lessans Livery Yard, Philippa’s passion for horses began at just four years old. Her early riding years were spent at Lagan Valley Equestrian, Jennifer Howes’ Riding School and Millbridge, before she got her first pony, Robin. As a member of the Iveagh and North Down Pony Clubs, she competed successfully in showjumping and eventing, riding ponies including Grey Prince and Houdini.
Over the past 40+ years, Philippa has built a lifelong career in the equestrian industry, teaching hundreds of children and adults, developing riders from beginners through to competitive levels and helping many pursue careers within the horse world. Her greatest achievement is perhaps the generations of riders she has inspired, with former pupils now returning to Lessans with their own children and grandchildren.
Lynne began her riding journey at Lessans at just five years old and has continued to develop a successful career within the equestrian world.
She has competed successfully in eventing up to 1* level and was Irish Draught Performance Champion at the Royal Dublin Horse Show. She has also achieved notable success in side saddle, becoming Reserve Champion at the Royal Balmoral Show, and is a qualified Side Saddle Coach.
Lynne brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her teaching, with a particular passion for developing riders and horses. She is fully up to date with First Aid, Safeguarding and AccessNI requirements.
Margie Lowry is a former Irish international showjumper with a wealth of experience in both competition and coaching. She now works as a dedicated jumping instructor, providing private and semi-private lessons tailored to the individual needs of each horse-and-rider combination. Her extensive experience and knowledge enable her to help riders develop their confidence, technique and performance at all levels.
In addition, we will regularly be inviting guest instructors to teach at the yard, so keep checking our What's On page for updates.
Lessons for larger groups and/or organisations (e.g. Pony Club, riding clubs) can also be accommodated on their own horses and ponies by prior arrangement.
If you would like more information on any of the above, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Be aware, however, that bookings for lessons will ONLY be taken over the phone or in person, not by email or facebook message.
If you would like to book a lesson please give us at least 48 hours' notice.
Group or private livery lessons for various ages and abilities are available; visitors are also welcome by pre-arrangement.
